We at Arts’ Nest believe that generative AI has no place in the arts. Below find a list of producers who have pledged not to use generative AI in their events at Phoenix Theater. We are not requiring producers to sign the pledge, nor are we refusing to host events that

We the producers state that to the best of our knowledge, generative AI was not used in any way during the production of the stated event. This includes script writing, set and prop design, and creation of publicity images and materials.

Reasons we don’t approve of AI:

  • Environmental impact - AI and data centers use vast amounts of energy and water

  • Copyright violation - Generative AI is trained on the intellectual property and artwork of human artists without permission, acknowledgement, or payment

  • Unoriginal work - Definitionally, generative AI does not produce anything new, merely repackages existing material

  • Bypasses artists - Arts Nest’s purpose is to support artists and new works. Generative AI’s primary purpose is to bypass artists
