April Showers Bring Rainbows

A GLBTQ awareness event that will include theater, music, and visual art created by numerous artists within the local GLBTQ community. April Showers has been developed to focus on community understanding, using both art and conversation to promote awareness.

Dates: April 9-25, 2015

Arts Nest partnered with OutFront Minnesota, with 10% of all ticket sales and donations going to their organization. Information on OutFront can be found here.

While there was no record breaking attendance during April Showers Bring Rainbows, we did host over a dozen events with over 60 new artists performing or showing work here at Phoenix Theater. Conversations were started and I look forward to the projects that come out of the meetings that started at this event.

I want to thank all of my producing partners for this event:

Mel Day of Day In, Day Out Productions and the Prism Play Reading Series; Victoria DeVille, who elegantly put together Suck It: Gag on the Drag; the musical groups Fuzzy Machete, Shy Guys and the Void, Venus deMars, and V Cary with the Minneapolis Mods; the filmmakers Raymond Rea, Angela Andrist, and Chris Durant; those who performed at our special cabaret; Gadfly Theatre; Chase Burns and everyone who came to discuss queer casting in theater; the brilliant artists whose work adorned our lobby; the artisans who joined us at the Craft fair; and in no particular order, the staff and volunteers for the event – Willie Cherry, Alissa McCourt, Nic Cherry, Eric Cohen, and Jena Young

Thanks for everything,
Jenna Papke
